View Full Version : AOTH 11 Theme Suggestions?

The Midwest Donzi Club organizing committee for the AOTH is starting to think about the next big run in the spring.
A big part of the run and the t-shirt design is the theme boat for that year's rally. Last year it was the 22 Classic, and of course, the rogue theme-inside-the-theme, the Blackhawk.
So it is time to start thinking about next year's theme. Believe it or not, we have never honored the boat that started it all, the 16 Classic, so we have it under consideration as a possibility.
Anybody else have some ideas that they would like to throw out there? It doesn't have to be limited to a boat type for that matter, just something that can be illustrated on a t-shirt and meets the spirit of our gathering.
Look for more details on AOTH 11 in the upcoming weeks, but mark your calendars for the weekend before Memorial Day for the Awakening of the Horses 11 at Lake Cumberland.
And thanks for the suggestions!

I suggest we feature the ZX. Maybe the 28ZX. Maybe one that says 'DIDN'T ASK' on the transom and has a bunch of pimpin lights on it. Yeah, I like that idea:)

After reading Lenny's post. I was thinking we could somehow honor Griz. I'm sure plans are already in place but I think that this could be something to remember him by.

Mr. Short Term Memory here... I think we did that two years ago. Bring it up again next year, would ya? Geesh. Now, we could consider a King of Bling angle here... Needs work.

So, if we do the Dink, do we have to do real dinky art work? THAT would be interesting.
And Ted? Really?

It is a committee that makes the call, but I would think this one would be a long shot. If you care to lobby, Byron and Jerry are the others on the committee, and two out of three gets it done. Me? I am wavering, but I can be bribed.

Mike,
Honoring Griz is on our agenda. Not sure how yet, but we intend to involve Barb in the conversation, and we will have her blessing and invovlement for anything that we do to remember Randy.

Year of the Big Griz . . .
Grizzlies are normally solitary active animals,
but in coastal areas the grizzly congregates alongside streams, lakes, rivers, and ponds
in Donzis during the salmon spawn.

I am thinking the TR, as Carter seems to be looking at actually finishing his.
The GT, because it is a cool ride and if Parnell is involved, I am sure it will be very cool.
The 16 OB, if a couple of people who own them truly commit to showing up with them.
The Dink would be interesting.
ZX has already been done.
And as I said, we will honor Grizz, no doubt.
Keep them coming.

The 22 BHLE was one of the 22 Classics featured on the shirt last year and it was part of your theme-inside-a-theme, too.
Can we agree that it has been covered? Yes, I think we can.

Don't if it's been done but a critter with the Grizz in it would be kinda cool also.

Critters were done about 4-5-6 or so years ago.

NEVER, NEVER ,NEVER have I been this busy or had such great contracts. Thankfully ( so far ) they are patient.
But, to that comment Jeremy, .......ahhhhhhhhh., NO, that won't be happening.

I really like Fomulas, but they have already been over-ruled by the organizing committee for some strange reason.

There will be one GT21 there this year for sure now that I have a few extra months to get it just right
Didn't I read that you guys have never done the 16? I project a few 16's will make it. I would think you would want at least one of the honored boats there.
Could be the key motivating factor for GC or Jim to step up and make the drive, which is no further than from Michigan anyways and I think I have 5 boats coming this year. Make the Florida group represent even if it takes a little bribing.

Most of my fondest memories include him and Barb. My first DONZI ride was with him and my wife at 80+ - ish. We had just gotten together after a 20 year hiatus. ( RUST never sleeps ) ;)
Seriously, forget the DINK, forget the 16 OB, forget the 28 Sportsman, lets take ALL of our boats out and just have fun and honour HIM...
I think he would like that... I will miss him calling me a crazy Canuck...
One for him and Barb :)

Folks, while plans are in the works to honor Grizz, per the families request it will not be the dominating theme of the event. Grizz would not have wanted it, they do not want it.

had a front-and-center, exclusive presence last year. Heck, people even bought the very cool banners at the auction.
I would think you guys would have a similar stake in this year's run.
As for Grizz, this one is hard. We all miss him and going to events is not going to be the same without his presence.
But, we will remember and honor him. My personal thoughts at this point are to tack a day on to the front of the event,
Wednesday, which is usually a travel/arrival day for a lot of folks, to assemble the right activites with Barb. I bring this up only,
so that those of you flying or coming in from long distances have notice and get a chance to add a day to your calendars way in advance.
As for the theme, I am leaning towards the 16 as the recommendation to the MWDC organizing committee for a vote.

I think there should be an educational aspect to the event.... Such as a Class by Todd explaining "The Proper Way to be the best Sandbagger" which will include : having 900 hp and making everyone think it's only 450, running 45 mph and being the last boat ,then do a fly by at 100 mph. Then a class for the wives that attend...which would cover topics such as "Why it's good to hold down 2 jobs to support your husband's Donzis", how to act when a new part arrives at your front door, support him when he wants 2 Donzis and more topic to follow....:grin::grin::grin:

Just rolled in from the Christmas trek and got your message. I'll call soon.

Several years ago Jeff volunteered to do a logo and the shirt art for a MADCOW event we did out on Lake St. Clair. It was very cool.
Ever since then, he has been the artist in residence for the Midwest Donzi Club.
His graphic designs are always accurate and creative in their depiction of the theme boats and the t-shirts always are very popular.
A couple of years ago, he did the AOTH logos, which have shown up on the People's Choice Awards, Dr. Dan's Hardware, and on just about every piece of MWDC correspondence.
While he can't make the trip to AOTH this year from California, he has agreed to draw up yet another great piece of art for our theme boat, the 16 Classic.
Thank you, Jeff. I look forward to yet another great design from you!
