For those of you looking to escape the cold (or worse) next month, the Sunnyland chapter of the ACBS is VERY fiberglass friendly. Our group (Donzi Marine Restoration Society ) is a sponsor again this year, and would like to invite you to the show. If you want in water space you need to book fast, it sells out quickly. In the application where it says business name, put DMRS, they know we like to run our boats and are looking for like minded boat owners! https://acbs.org/update-2019-sunnyland-boat-festival/?fbclid=IwAR1YFCK4hV5_QFQfZHS_JWe5gOmd3uImlJ34tULd 77NuduZ94NKmzPT0cuM

There were 3 events I had my heart set on having the Critter ready for this Spring.

But alas, my right ankle has recently turned into the Eiffel Tower. So, no progress on installing the new engine.

OMG, Bill, you okay? That looks like quite a repair—scares me to think what happened.

DUDE! I would ask you if you've been hanging out with my pup but I believe you have outdone him on collecting hardware. Multiply this by two BTW, both legs have been done now....

Yeah, I'm OK. Quite the experience. Lots about the whole process went very badly, but I was blessed to get an awesome orthopedic surgeon who did an amazing job putting things back together.

I made it to 62 without breaking a major bone. That is actually pretty amazing. And then I do this pulling a vine out of a tree. Vine was popping loose every few feet. When it was about 30' up in the tree, it all of a sudden snapped completely free. I was really pulling. My right foot was planted, and I rotated clockwise. First the ankle dislocated, then snapped off the ankle bone, cracked off the back section of the tibia, and fractured the tibia. It also diagonally cracked the fibula. I heard the crack, as did my wife. I crumpled to the ground.

I can now say I can say with confidence that I know what a level 10 pain feels like. You can't really tell someone when you are experiencing it, because you can't stop screaming, which in my case was profanities, at the top of my lungs. My wife said I wasn't the uni-bomber, but I was certainly the f-bomber.

Thanks, and truer words were never spoken. I have zero experience with narcotics. While they do help with the pain, they are brutal with the side effects. I stopped taking Percocet 3 days after the surgery because it was screwing me up so much. Nausea, dizziness, and constipation were serious. I transitioned to a weaker pain killer, Tramadol, and took that. Milder side effects, but much more pain. Got off that 2 days ago and am finally feeling like myself. Pain is a bitch. Each day is better than the previous.

If all goes according to plan I will be weight bearing March 20. I start physical therapy next Monday, Feb 25.

And I have a new 600 hp (actually 598 on the dyno) engine to install in the Criterion. I thought I would have it installed by now. Oh well. . . . .

Mend quickly, Bill.

When does the hardware come out?

And no more playing Tarzan until after the Donzi is running.....

Wow! Glad you’re on the mend and the pain is at least better than before. Best of luck with PT—I expect you’ll get after it big-time. Funny, I’ve been given narcotics a couple times and like you, always threw them out after the first day. Once you’re further on the mend, we need to get together sometime. Maybe this summer—Lisa and I will probably fly into GRR enroute to Traverse again this July or August...with a little planning it should be possible to grab a beer. Among other things, now I need to tell you a story that starts off REMARKABLY similarly to yours, and also ends up in emergency surgery. :)

Really wish Tavares was in the cards for me this year. Been wanting to go for ages. Just too much with the new house and other challenges right now. Hopefully next year is the charm.

If there’s any chance it’d be sans-Cig, quick fly in and out.

The picture wasn't bad, but I got nauseous reading what happened. That is nasty! Hard to believe that could happen by standing in one spot.
Take it easy and heal quick, Bill.
