Who wouldn't like to pick up a duo like those two?

That's a pretty cool boat--never seen one. Reminds me of the monster big brother of that weird little skimmer you told us about that got passed around the Magothy and Severn. Any idea how many were even made? I feel like if you could find one, it'd probably be rough but nearly free to a good home. Do they have a dedicated following with some known owners out there, or have they basically vanished?

    Regards,

    Mike

This was one of the most dangerous boats anyone could buy in 1970.

The boat weighs 625 lbs., and is rated up to 170 HP. Wow!

Yet, you have this picture of a really, badly dressed guy (Light colored shoes and Black socks?)..... in what looks like a Ferryboat Life-jacket with two Hotties at a Horn/Light, ... and just a 70Hp, or so, "Rude" on the back.

The Ad is so understated... And that is what makes the Ad funny.

I have only see one DUO Mystry. That was over forty years ago. It was of the Fire Orange Gelcoated ones with a 125 Merc, with a Stainless Speed prop, that had external exhausts out the side of the power head.

If I remember correctly, it was called the "Red Baron;" "Snoopy and Red Baron" being still a popular song at the time, and was based on the Magothy River around 1971.

On the Magothy, it was the undisputed "King of the Hill" for at least two years. And there were some serious speed boats on the River at that time.

This boat stands out in my memory, in the same way "Train Spotting" must stand out in the minds of many other people of my age: You kept track of these things when you were 13 and a Wharf Rat.

I know I should get a Mag Missile to be Donzi Correct, yet that boat just doesn't do it for me, as it is too short and too heavy, and the front is too squared. There are lots of Carlson's around... I've even been offered a few of those for free.

    Nope. ..
Its gotta be one of these...

As to numbers, the DUO branded boats are as rare as it gets. Very short time production under that name. Then they became Starcraft Eliminators. The DUO Branded Boats do seem to have dwindled to a handfull of survivors. Most, got flipped or otherwise totaled. I've never seen one forsale or for free.

Ghost did hit the nail on the head. This is purely a childish pursuit of something that was once coveted. As an "adult" now, it is one of those itches I would love to scratch and see how the boat really was. As a 13 year old, I did talk my way in to driving the Red Baron, but they didn't let me go much past planning off.
Finding one in a workable state, as is, is probably impossible. And thats Okay. Its always good to have at least one thing that is unreachable in life. The dreaming is the joy.....

Scott, The pick of the one with the White with Yellow stripe:

    THATS what I'm looking for.......

See, I don't remember the foredeck of the boat in my childhood memory having the Black Raised portion. The foredeck seamlessly slopped to the bow like the one in your picture with a well rounded bow. . So I gotta ask.... What the hell is that white boat with the yellow stripe?
