    Default Summary

    Fellas,

I haven't been involved in the Donzi community long enough to meet the active members and form the bonds of club friendship, BUT I know what you're talking about from doing the same thing with my car club. After owning the same car and doing the same events for over 14 years now, at this point we come out just to drink beer in the parking lot after the show is over! That's the best part!

SO after reading through all of the posts, excellent points, and bringing some wisdom from my own perspective, here's some thoughts.

    1. The Lake needs to be EPIC. It's gotta be big, interesting, accommodating, and a destination that people would want to plan a vacation around, not just a local mudhole.

    2. SOME organization is necessary, but not so much that it becomes a burden on a particular host. Of course the home team player is going to know the most and some kind of leadership or itinerary is helpful to put everyone on the same page and so we can all be together to hang out and cruise.

    3. No exclusivity. ALL Donzi's welcome. Classics, Z's, even deckboats (they carry coolers ). I think other Thunderboat row companies like Cig are cool too but lets stay Aronow heritage, not searay or bayliner. This keeps thing narrowed to Donzi, but also allows a more diverse crowd and therefore a bigger turnout.

    4. Planning. People need to plan their vacation time off or work, sync up with their spouse, and then be able to secure potentially high demand summer lodging, months in advance. This could mean that a summer event needs to be nailed down and planned by Jan or Feb of the year.

I'm hoping all of this discussion develops into an awesome event. I'm personally a Lake George, NY guy, but I understand the issues with that lake, the costs, and requirements. It's a beautiful place but it can be a pain for boaters. As for recommendations, I've always wanted to put in at Alexandria Bay in NY, or I hear Lake of the Ozarks, MO is insane too, but quite a hike for me @ 18 hours.

Hope to meet you all someday!

    Thanks,
    Matt Hjembo
